Bronze-Winged Mannikins are active, lively, and social birds. They generally enjoy living in groups of their own species and can become less active when kept in an enclosure that is too small.
These birds are naturally gregarious and do best when provided with sufficient space to move, fly, and interact.
During the breeding season, however, males may become territorial and aggressive toward other males or different species. Careful planning is important when housing them in a mixed aviary.
Bronze-Winged Mannikins usually breed during the warm, rainy season, although breeding can occur throughout the year in areas near the equator.
For successful breeding, it is recommended to keep a compatible group rather than a single pair. A group of at least three pairs, with an equal number of males and females, can allow the birds to choose their own partners.
Birds between 1 and 4 years of age are generally best suited for breeding.
Providing suitable nesting areas, nesting material, adequate space, and a quiet environment can support successful breeding.
A balanced diet is essential for keeping Bronze-Winged Mannikins healthy and active.
Recommended foods include:
Fresh, clean drinking water should also be available at all times.
The Bronze-Winged Mannikin is a social and active finch with attractive, glossy plumage. Its lively personality and preference for group living make it an interesting addition to a suitable finch collection or aviary.
